Very nice indeed Doug. I've only modified one amp so far, looking forward to getting into it a bit more. Maybe a kit next then try and do everything from scratch. Like MartyMart said, the high voltages are a bit offputting for someone who only picked up a soldering iron for the first time a year ago, but I'll get my head round it eventually :D

Quotehey Doug, i just saw your amp popping up on another forum

Yes, someone at ax84 asked me if I minded him sharing the link at another forum where they had interest in 6bm8 amps.

QuoteWhat OT did you use ?  10 K , is it Hammond ?

I had Heyboer build it for me a couple years ago for another project. That project morphed into this one. It is 13W, 10k Zpri, 4/8/16 Zsec, M27 steel, interleaved windings.

QuoteDoes the Ef86 celan up when you turn down the guitar volume ?

Yes, very much so. That is one of the things I love about this amp. The guitar volume control is your friend. :icon_wink:

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I'm going to start working on some soundclips soon.

I would love to hear a soundclip !

Doug  have you ever had a look at Alexander 's Retrodyne amps site?
He uses a different penthode : 6au6 which doesn't suffer so much from microphonics.

I have not seen that site but I have a number of 6au6's and have considered using them for this sort of thing. For this amp I wanted to stick to something fairly known, and keep tweaking/prototyping to a minimum. I just "designed it" (adapted it, really), built it, and did some minor tweaks before I had it up and running in its current form. FWIW I'm not having microphonic issues with this JJ EF86.

I "wonder" what a JFET sim of it would sound like?

;) ;)

I think ROG already has one. :icon_mrgreen:

Their Matchless sim should be fairly close.
