Octave Down?

Can someone please recommend me a relatively simple octave-down circuit? I have had a request to build "...an octave down pedal that's dirty as hell". I can take care of the "dirty as hell" side of things if you have just the octave part. I was thinking of cloning and modding the MXR Blue Box but I was hoping for something a little more simple (I'm feeling lazy). The guy I am making it for said he has the latest Boss-released octave pedal but says it's just too 'complicated/complex' for what he is after. He plays in a band that has only 2 guitars and drums and he wants to fatten up the lower end of things. Any help would be greatly appreciated

It always gets me down when my band rehearses without our bass player and we're amazed at how much tighter we sound..... sigh.. :(

Well, anyway you can maybe try an old organ style frequency divider circuit? I think those are a pretty basic dirty octave down. I've never messed with one, so I'm not sure what it does, but I think alot of other octave boxes use a similar circuit.

The Shocktave really has a great sound and is a simple build, but tracking gets weird below the lowest G on guitar and isn't really usable in the low range of the bass, but maybe you can tweak the circuit for better bass-response with bigger input/coupling-caps.
