A little off topic but

was a simple change for Si higher gain transistors 10K and 100 ohm.  So thought went into the values

Things to think about Ic and hfe and gain and collector resistors and drive..

Another circuit that been up for years.  I am not saying anything about its tone.  It was posted to give people ideas about how to maybe use higher gain Si transistors in place of older lower gain.  Not a perfect solution(replacement) for older circuit that use low hfe transistors but something to try.

If you decide to build the germanium version, You really should try a very low gain transistor for Q2. I used a 38hfe  Russian transistor in mine.

Heres my thread:

And a great article from a thread started (I believe) by 8mileshigh correct?

Mine sounds tons better after reading that article and swapping out Q2.

Gus - that's a nice set of values on that schematic.  At first I thought the emitter resistor would increase the base and emitter voltages and provide more "headroom".  But I see from your values that there's hardly any voltage across that resistor.  So the output should stay nicely asymetric.   :icon_cool:

Yeah, things get wild with a high hFE or untamed transistor in Q2.  That was the sixties for you.  :D
