i've been having some trouble  with IC chips....i couldn't figure out the problem....until I realized that I was doing the pinout incorrectly

i thought it went like this

1    5
2    6
3    7
4    8

so you can imagine how I had some problems. The first circuit that I got working was a square wave oscillater based around the 555 timer/oscillator. i just used a pot across 3 and 6 and it works great as an auxilary instrument to add cool effects to songs. although I'm thinking about making a synth (way kool)

anyways, I found the fuzz here and I substituted values in with what I thought sounded best. it's a very clean, round sounding fuzz and I'd love to know how to add an octave on to it. plz help me with this!

here's the value list w/ the values that I used (changed)

r1, r2 -10k

r3 - 100 ohms

r4 - 1M

C1 - 47uf

c2- .047uf

c3 .1uf

D1, D2 - 1n4148

U1 - 741 op amp
clip

by changing the voltage divider (r1 and r2) to 1/10 of the value (which I think sounds better), i end up using 10x more power. at 9v (if I did my math correctly) this circuit draws 40.5 milli-amps (which still isn't that much) and puts .4 watts or so out. the battery that I used for the clip ended up having 5v or so.

it is a great circuit. to get these values, I just inserted parts in while it was on the breadboard. I'm not that experienced in how different values deal with the sound. but I'm working on figuring that out first hand

to add a gain control, you can put a trimpot or pot in parallel with the 1M resistor (r4?). as you add resistance on that pot (subtracting total amt of resistance) you get less distortion. as it is on the negative feedback loop. i don't find a need for the gain pot.

another idea: diode switch! set up a switch to switch between that pair of diodes and another type (or a mixture) and see what happens.

i think it sounds great. really simple, if you have the parts, i reccomend building it.

the clip was recorded through a bandmaster and p90 guitar
