I could swear I saw another DIYer mention Skycraft around here at some point.

That might have been me. I bought most of the parts for my firefly amp from Skycraft.  I love that place. It is a fun place just to spend a few hours browsing in. It's like the parts bin for "junkyard wars" or something...

The project box selection is not great. OTOH, I used their "security cable transponder" chassis for my amps. $2.50, the perfect size, and includes a PCB stuffed with silver mica caps (among other things). How could you go wrong?

I doubt that anyone lives here in Iowa, but I haven't been able to find anything beyond a few Radio Shacks in the Iowa City area.  It'd be so great to be able to saunter down to an electronics surplus place and just pick out whatever I needed for cheap.
