is it true the BS170 and 2N7000 have the drain and source pins reversed?

R.G.

Yes.

However, you're doomed to a lot of frustration at this electronics stuff unless you learn to go google the datasheets for the parts you use.

Do google searches for "2N7000 datasheet" and "BS170 datasheet" and see.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Thanks RG, I had already looked at the data sheets but the illustration on one was not clear to me. In addition I have a schematic and a layout for a pedal which have the same part reversed to add the confusion.

I've seen a data sheet or two with less than clear pinout diagrams.
Sometimes schematics have pinouts on them, or find a clearer data sheet [from different Mfr.]...I cant' recall the pinouts offhand.

Don't assume that different manufacturers use the same pinout.

I made it a point to get all the data sheets for all the transistors in my builds. I printed them out and keep them in a notebook with the schematics and layouts of my builds for easy reference.
