Question about wire type.

Alright, so i'm almost done with my box. I've been almost done for liek a month now, i've had to resolder over and over again.   I bought wire that is kinda thick, but its one piece of copper wire.  I didnt think itd be like that when i bought it at radioshack.  Whats the name of the kind of wire thats flexible.  Instead of being one piece of copper its a bunch of twisted strands.....??
