I was thinking about this nice and simple preamp section of the EA tremolo and a thought struck me: Wouldn't it be nice to put a simple tube preamp in there instead ? How about this one:

And by putting another switch in there I could cut the tremolo section and use it as a booster only.

Your thoughts gentlemen ?

as long as you don't use the starved plate tube for distortion it should sound alright.  I've never cared much for the low voltages preamp tube disto myself.

That is a very nice project Andrew. I was aware of it's existence, but I was thinking that maybe I'd get away with something even simpler. Thus the EA approach.

Which part do you find complex ? Perhaps you can modify or use some of the ideas to build what you want.

It's not that it is too complex, or well maybe it is. I think I'd leave out the tonestack to keep wiring and parts count down a little. Maybe I'd use a simpler treble bleed only.

That certainly is an option but you will probably have to reset the gain structure of those stages as the gain has been set to recover the loss from the tone stack.
