Two questions:
1. CAE mentions the use of 'passive relays'.
       - Are passive relays non-latching (and active relays - latching)?
2. Does the nomenclature for relays also include optocouplers?
Thanks.

1. I think active relays are latching, but not positive.

2. I think optocouplers are in a different category than relays, so they aren't included.

I've never heard the terms used that way. I would guess that latching relays, needing no continuous coil power to stay in one or the other position, would be passive and non-latching, needing continuous power to stay in one position would be active, but that's just the way the terms strike me. I don't know what CAE (?) means by them. And in the tradition of our immortal president William Jefferson Clinton, "it all depends on what your definition of 'is' is".  :icon_biggrin:

No.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
