Simplified post from a previos one.

Are a potenmtiometer and trim pot interchangable?

Do log trim pots exist?

Thank you.

pots are interchangeable for trimpots.  keep in mind though that trimpots are usually much less rugged. some of them are only rated to be turned a few hundred times as you'd usually set a trimmer once in production and leave it there.

i'm not sure about the log trimpot question, but if you aren't going to use it very often it doesn't rally matter. the taper still gives the same resistance and you can still select the same range of resistances, but the range is just a little useful. selecting the right type of pot (log/lin/rev.log) is mostly for the consumer so they don't say "hey, i like the minimum gain. i like the maximum gain. but why is all the distortion pretty much just up one end of the knob?"

hmm... i'm going to make reverse lin. pots just to confuse people I think.

I've got a left-handed screw-driver if anyone's interested?

LOL, put me down for 2 screwdrivers.

Thanks for the response, I get why a log trim is not needed.

Genius, I'll be specifying a 98.2K reverse lin pot in the next project I publish.

Don't do it. I'm 100% that more than few people will take it seriously and you'll get bombarded with questions where they can get such part.  ::)
