Problems with a SansAmp

I replaced the switch in a friend's old SansAmp--the original version.  When I fired it back up, the bypass is working fine and the pedal effect comes on, but I only get a faint trace of signal coming through UNLESS the output is maxed out at 10.  When the output is maxed I get full effected volume and it's loud.  When maxed, all the controls work.  But if I barely back off the output the signal suddenly disappears. 

Would that be a bad output pot?  Any other ideas?

probably yuor rewiring. do you still have this unit?

Did this happen before the switch broke?
