Boss DF-2 Distortion Feedbacker Diode Question

I have an old DF-2. I replaced the clippers with LED's. I noticed that if the df-2  is in my signal chain andit is off, they still light up? Is this normal. A ds-1 doesn't do this..

Whether they light up is a function of a) whether there is any stray DC of sufficient current at that point in the circuit, and b) the luminance or sensitivity (millicandles per milliamp of current) of the LEDs in question.  If the electronics store near me was open right now, I could stroll over and easily buy red LEDs that look the same but produce as little as 50 or as many as 6000 or more millicandles with the same input current.
