Millennium Bypass: LED won't turn off

I recently built a BSIAB2 that works and sounds great except for the fact that the LED I used in the Millennium Bypass circuit won't turn off.  The circuit switches the signal just fine, just not the LED.  I originally used an MPF102, but switched it out for a J201 thinking the MPF102 might be bad, but no such luck.  Has anyone had this problem before that may have some suggestions?

Thanks.

hope this helps- I struggled for a while, then just used a 3 pole switch instead....

Thanks forthe reply.  My Problem doesn't sound like the same issue you were having.   The LED in my circuit doesn't even dim.  It stays on at full brightness regardless of whether the pedal is in bypass mode or not.

Neither the MPF102 nor the J201 are particularly good matches to the Millenium 1.

If I may suggest, use a 2SK30A, 2SK118, 2N5392 or 2N5485 instead.

Better - go to the Millenium 2 and use a 2N7000 or BS170, or the Millenium C which uses CMOS logic chips.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I used the Millennium 2 on a recent build and it worked great. I used a BS170 and a 3904 (collector-base) for the low leakage diode.
