Fuzz Faces always had the input on the left side, and they were a very early effects pedal, but at some point manufacturers obviously decided to make it a standard to have the input on the right side of the pedal and the output on the left  Since you're only talking about a difference of an inch or so, it's really not that big of a deal!

The right handed issue is probably the main reason. but i was also thinking Boss/Roland has always had a lot of influence. and it's japanes... they don't read from left to right...

and is it also Boss that set the standard center negative for DC jacks? so we all have to use insulated dc jacks...

That is a standard that should have been changed!

On a round box (fuzz face) a inch is not an issue, but on a square, the line become a little bit criss-cross and you'll need longer wire to connect it...and it's worse when you use a dc power also. But i agree there's things more tragic than that in the world...So hows good is your economy in USA?  :-X (OT)
I know, but the pedal i built does not boost...it just increases volume!

I thought that it was because you hit your first stopmbox with your right foot.  The rest of the effects are still in front of you !  Then if you want to hit te second you have to cross your legs.  For the third, you take a step with your left leg and cross again your right leg.  It makes you dance and put momentum in your performance.   The more there is progression in your effects sum, the more you get at the center of the stage to be acclaimed (or off the stage if you don't like your band).  Finally, if you make a false note, you look at your drummer so the crowd don't see your face, and you can hit the last drastic effect (always with your right foot but by the back) that will cover your mistake.  For the next song you press "return" and you're all set back.
