DD3 tickling at 800ms setting

What is the possible cause and the remedy for this problem? The tickling vary according to delay time and very annoying.

Does it do it using a battery?  Does it do it in bypass?  Does it do it when the guitar is plugged into a buffered pedal before it? 

Total blind guess, but could it be something with one of the RAM chips?  i'd probably try replacing them all if they are cheap and easy to get at (2nd condition being more important).  Or figure out which one gets used only for the longer delays.
