Which FSH1 layout is best

Hi Everyone,

Just a bit of a random question here but just wondered if there was a 'Best layout' for the FSH.

I know a few folks have had issues but a friend and myself really fancy this one and just wondered if GGG or tonepads layouts or others are best for a successful build.

Any input on this matter would be gratefully received as always

Cheers

Hello mate, I have a funny feeling the PM that I am about to read is from you about this very subject....

After some thought I fancy the tonepad version best,

Ha ha no its not!

The GGG layout is probably the safest to build. This one is more likely to work noise free. But it has the drawback that it requires two 3080s which are harder to get. This layout also requires two 9V batteries to operate.

The Tonepad version uses the much easier to find 13600 and is set up with MAX1044 so it can run off a single 9V battery or your favorite 9V power supply. But there is  greater chance to end up having clock noise bleed into the audio.

I have built the Tonepad version, the first version there is a more updated one, and have not been able to get rid of the clock noise. I have it tamed to a acceptable levels in the S&H mode. But I can still here ticking in the Filter mode.

Thanks for the info on that mate, Its more than possible to use the MAX1044 on the GGG version though I think ;) with the minimum of fuss I have a stack of 3080's and 13600's too so no problems there, althogh the 13600's are just 3080's with a buffer on the output arent they

of course if you are only interested in the S/H part of the effect I would suggest you "my" squeezed-for-1590B-box Tonepad layout...

it's not verified yet, but come on! you could be the pioneer!!!

Go on tell me more....... Sample and hold only, whats the score with that?

I agree the GGG is safer, but MUCH larger. I used a 1790N box for mine.

I don't have any ticking in either mode (but can get some, along with wild and cool noises by choosing different noise transistors).

I used the GGG charge pump layout to power it from 9V.

any thoughts on having the noise transistor switchable or even having a socket to switch them as and when the mood takes.......

Of course I meant sample/hold driven filter... I'm leaving the envelope out as I have a meatball already...

If I ever built another one of these, I would use multi-turn trim pots.  ;)

Really?  is it hard to dial in the settings?

moosapotamus

Only because I found it very touchy with single turn trimmers... small turn, big change.

I'd like to see this - do you have a different schematic, of just a different layout for the tonepad schematic?

MarcoMike

Same schematic, same layout actually... only a bit of cutting and shifting... HERE

9 volts

Experiment with the sample/hold transistor. They all have a different influence, some more interesting than others. (my experience). all agree that a multi turn pot would be handy.

Austin73

pap,

Don't worry about the trimmers I have lots and lots!
