Has any one ever seen those silver caps with the red line on them.  Sorry I don't have a pic but they are in an old organ I have.  They look like foil caps.    Has anyone used these and for what?  Do they color the sound favorably??  Any mojo there??heh ;D ;D

Thanks

That description sounds like the capacitors used in the thomas organ crybaby wahs. By the way, I never understood what exactly people were referring to when they mention organs on here that they take apart for parts, could you link me to a pic of the one you have or the kind that is used for this purpose because as far as I know organs are pretty big? and where do you get them? Sorry for the noob question  :icon_biggrin:.

I just got 3 free in one shot off craigslist

2 lowreys one called the SCT was pretty big (that was the one I cut up) and one Massive one called the MX-1 the biggest most advanced organ lowrey had in the 80's.  the damn thing was like $25 000 new.  The 3rd one is a hammond monarch it has a leslie and drawbars.  The SCT also had a leslie w/ a 10" speak, two 12" speaks one was alnico, one 8" and two 6x9's.  On the boards there are thousands of carbon comps, foil caps, halo style inductors and BBD chips.  I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with the hammond or the MX-1 maybe keep em.  Thing is a couple a weeks ago I scored a sweet much smaller (very transportable) yet awsome sounding lowrey from the 60's (full of hundreds of orange drop caps) for $20 off the list.  So maybe the bigger ones will go to the chop block too.

None of these were tube organs though, those are the real score tons of old nice tubes RCA,s and such plus you can pull the amps out and use them as guitar tube amp  heads

Any way I'm gonna build myself a couple of speakercabs  a 2 x 12 and a 10" leslie (the best thing about the organs w/ built in leslies is they are much more transportable when you rehouse them in a new box)  This makes them much easier to gig with than those big damn end table leslie 147's & 122's.

I think that about covers it keep your e e on craigs list musical instruments and free sections, be patient and keep on it and you'll find a free or real cheap one 4 sure.  You may  have to move it up some stairs when you pick it up but its well worth it.

Good luck bro

I use polystyrene caps instead of SM caps quite often. They have a red line on one end (mounting direction), look like foil caps and sound a bit warmer than SM caps. No mojo, just a bit different in tone and not as thin and harsh sounding like ceramic caps.
