Are the TL064 and TL074 interchangable?

I built an easyvibe using TL074s. I noticed on John Hollis' site he used TL064s. Mine doesn't vibe and just passes the signal. I want to make sure I'm using the right chips and not trying to fix a problem that isn't there. I had a huge go around with the dist+ until someone pointed out there was a mistake in the schematic I was using.

They both use the same standard quad op-amp pinout configuration.  The 074 has better noise rating than the 064, better slew rate, etc.

So, yes, they are interchangeable.

they`re used a lot in Behringer pedals (tl064, that is): they are quite perceptible noisier while consuming less current.

Perhaps a little unkind, as I have permanent hissing in my ears all opamps sound the same to me. But to younger ears no doubt there can be a difference but at 9v I'd wager there is very little. Una pava distinta de pescados!!

They are definitely noisier.

However, many circuits are pooly designed from a noise point of view so people's opinions will vary.  For example a 500k volume pot will produce just as much noise as the "noisey" TL06x.   The TL06x has a JFET input stage so in high impedance circuits the TL06x can easily beat quite bipolar opamps.
