super fuzzes revisited

hello,
Ive spent some time re reading posts on super fizzes with no one schematic/layout coming off as the best one overall.I still want to build one.,and earlier versions tend to be the better ones.so which ones do I have to pick from now, that have schematics and layouts for the paint by number builder like me. if there are mods to read about,id be interested in the links as well.Are there modern fuzz pedals that come close to the sound of the first super fizzes,Id like to know  thanks

My son and I would like to build a clone of the super fuzz(orange box,or gray box or even the dynacord version.Weve finished a tone bender,rangemaster,and a tycobra octavia over the last 2 years. Not sure if it`s the same beast as the Univox but at a cursory glance they look similar. I`ve just started building this version

similar, but a few changes would need to be made to the pcb ...

there are several people here who can make pcb's for him...

bingewood and john lyons coming immediately to mind.

Woaah Gila,

That layout is not going to put out anything, since Q5 and C13/C14 are not connected.  I would consider the layout unverified.  I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I wouldn't want people building this and finding out it doesn't work, then get frustrated, then give up, then stop building cool pedals.

These are the types of layout dangers which happen when a schematic netlist is not directly tied to a layout, but it's the price we pay for a simple DIY approach.

I can highly recommend John Lyons for PCBs.

My fav version of this is the FET input one as seen on the Ibanez Standard Fuzz.  More "grainy" than the others.

The layout is in the links I listed. Contact forum members "Bingewood" or "John Lyons" if you need a PCB made...they do great work !

The Kay is kind of a poor man's version of the Super Fuzz. It's also got a distinctive sound. Daniel Lanois named a song after his ('Orange Kay').
