I actually did not purchase the amp, I had my guitar teacher with me, and we both agreed it didn't have enough "punch" for a fifty watt, it was either old tubes or something was wrong, plus there was a rattling noise from a non original back on the amp, it was one piece back instead of the standard two piece marshall combo back. But, I am still going to be making a tube amp purchase and this thread has helped me tons, thank you so much! I was starting to think about going with a new amp, but after hearing all your reassurances, it sounds like the main thing is, if the tubes are fresh, theyll last you a while, just make sure it's original and replace those filter caps!

So, how much do you think it'd cost to have the filter caps replaced and have the amp looked over by a tech?

How much did they want for it?

Cap change ~ $75 - $100

And don't believe the filter cap hype-
I have the originals in my '73 Marshall and even my '67 Fender ProReverb.
I've got amps from the 50's with original caps.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

they wanted 900, but yeah, who wants to worry about breaking the transformer and tubes why not dish out a little and get some piece of mind?
