Mostly What I guess I'd like to know is would this chip be any good and any possible suggestions for a usage maybe even as something other than a portable amp?

It is intended for use as dual audio power amplifier.
  15v supply, max.
  Should work fine.

Looks like the same thing as the TDA2822/NJM2073, which you can certainly use as the basis for a little amp.  I explored using that chip a bit a while back: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=25697.msg169576#msg169576

it's my fault all that reading about using pc speakers to build a mini amp. I got five minutes and started taking an old set I had laying around apart. They were amplified and great for a weak sound card But i got better speakers and these were retired. I was just thinking of a low fi bridged inpput and stereo out
