I got interested in polishing cast enclosures while doing the Bear Boost Plus, (BTW: PC Boards and drilled cases for that will be here end of the month!), and I just came up with my best results yet:



Method was the same as I described in the article, just careful wet-sanding through 2000 grit. But I tried this polish:



It worked better than jeweler's rouge and went on more easily. I think this is the stuff that car detailers use on mag wheels.

The polish, and the above-600 grades of 3M Wet-Or-Dry carborundum paper, are stock items in any auto-body supply shop. Though I may add them to the Consummables and Abrasives sections of my Stock List if there's enough interest.

I should add that we are not geared to polish enclosures to order, so if you want this kind of finish on a B-size enclosure, you have to give it your own elbow grease.

Been doing that for over 5 years myself.  A friend who polishes engine parts turned me onto this.  Works rather well, but it does take some elbow grease.

A similar European product is Belgom Alu, for those interested.

I've also been using an ultra fine steel wool (also used for french polishing I believe) on aluminum with some good results, doesn't look quite as fine as those pics though.
