I am having some trouble with my Axis Face that I breadboarded; I can't get enough fuzz from it. The fuzz that I do get sounds great. I've tried adjusting the bias, which can give more fuzz, but not very Fuzz Face sounding. I also tried putting a 2n5089 in Q1 and that didn't seem to increase the fuzz that much. I tried substituting another BD139 for Q2,  but that didn't help much; I suspect that it has a similar gain to the one I tried. Any ideas?

What value capacitor are you using on the fuzz potentiometer? You could try increasing it to 22uF or even 47uF.

Solid state or tube amp?  A high power solid state amp can sound different with a FF than a lower powered tube.   Can you compare it to a real FF?   No voltage readings in your post?

I have 20 uF on it. I will try increasing it more to see if that helps.

I have a tube 5W tube amp, it has the preamp stages from a Champ and the output and power stages from the AX84 P1.

Unfortunately I cannot compare it to a real FF.

The other problem was I did not have a trimpot, so I set the bias with resistors. The bias was 5V with a 9.5V battery (as close as I could get it with what I had.
