With the .1 uf cap left in the circuit, is this the  mid scoop sound or when its out of the circuit?

C7 on the ggg layout.

To add a blend knob all i would have to do is leave one leg of the cap in the circuit solder the other end to lug 1 and 2 of the pot and wire lug 3 to ground where the cap was, right? Im using the schem Mark Hammer drew up

anyone got any suggestions for this??? like blend knob or toggle switch or whatever..... or other part replacement for better sound...... :icon_wink:

thanks scott s

"Blend knob " ?

Are you referring to Marks "Scoop Mod " ?

Mark Hammer

The .1uf cap to ground allows a big chunk of the mids to be "bled" to ground.  The 1000pf cap that straddles the 15k and 10k resistors permits highs to pass unaffected.  Between the highs bypass and the mid-bleed, thats how you get the final big bottom plus sizzling top.  Lifting the .1uf cap, or simply adding some resistance between the cap and ground, will eliminate the mid-bleed and the resulting "scoop".  It really only takes about 5k-10k to make a big difference.

I suppose there are some "blend" options that one could pursue, but it is unclear which sort of blend you wish to attempt.  Spell it out a little more and I'll see if I can help out.

Thats what I was having trouble understanding. I thought about "spelling out" your scoop mod, but then it seemed unclear as to what he was trying to accomplish.

I thought by putting a pot in conjunction with the .1 cap you could adjust how much of a Mid scoop was present? I guess blend was the wrong word....    I listened to one of the creepy fingers "rising fuzz" Harakiri and noticed he called it a crown fuzz and that it had a toggle that on the mp3 clip sounded like he was using to switch between a full spectrum fuzz to a mid scoop sound... i hope this is more informative

You could easily use a switch to select between the standard "scooped" sound and a regular "non-scooped" sound. Something like a .022uf output cap would probably work well for the "non-scooped" sound.

Mark Hammer

The midscoop control actually introduces essentially the same tonal change as the Superfuzz tone switch, except gradually.  Unfortunately, where the Superfuzz switch introduces a level adjustment to make the two tone settings roughly equal in volume, the midscoop control tends to be louder in the no-scoop position than the max-scoop position, requiring an adjustment of the volume control.  Not really a hardship, when you think about it.  The other benefit is that by virtue of having NO level compensation as you reduce the scoop, you get the perk of having much more output level.  So, not a bad deal, all in all.

Note that there are two potential ways to wire up the Fuzz-amount pot.  The stock way is shown here: http://members.fortunecity.com/uzzfay/fy2/fy-2schem.gif  The other way is to run the two caps (.0033 and .0022uf) to the outside lugs of the Fuzz pot and run the pot wiper to the scoop filter.  Personally, I prefer the latter, tonewise, but your tastes may vary.

I prefer this way as well...it seems to have a better "range".

kinda blew my mind just then.... are you referring to the pot that is used as the fuzz amount already on the circuit or adding another control as the mid scoop adjustment...im kinda new to modding stuff...... sorry

referring to the existing fuzz pot...

look at how it's connected.... then imagine it as Mark described, which is a subtle wiring change, but "better" IMO.

thanks ;D I go it now, just moving two wires...

Dragonfly.... i dont know if you've seen any of my post request or not, but i was wondering if you had a layout or schem for the pedal you put on ebay that was on here first under "Gnarly little fuzz experiment" or do you have any suggestions for a single control fuzz build?  aslo Can a dual gang pot be used to control fuzz and volume at the same time

the "gnarly" was just an experiment I wanted to try...no real layout for it...if I get time I'll try to remember what I did and let you know...

as for "dual gang", sure... you might have a tough time finding a dual 500k-a / 1k-b pot .... you might be able to get away with a 100k/100k pot or a 100k / 10k pot and wiring it like Jack mentions on THIS page.
