Hi everyone,

You'd be pleased to know that working the DOD FX96 up to 12V power was a success! The Repeats are definitely much longer and the 'Quality' knob has more profound tonal range; however, there are still some limits: like when the 'Quality' knob is 12 o'clock or below, the repeats don't last very long (even when Regen knob is already maxed). On the other hand though, when the 'Qulaity' knob is 12 o'clock and above, the Repeats last much much longer, matter in fact when ample volume and sustained notes are present, I get plenty of self-oscillaion, almost too much. It's really awesome!

For everyone who own or use DOD FX96 out there, don't throw 'em in the trash just yet, boost the voltage power up to 12V instead of 9V, besides, the minimum value components inside the FX96 are rated at 16V, so you still got 4V safety margin. So far, I' don't have any problems, but I'll observe the performance of the pedal as time goes by.

If anyone has questions, don't mind taking a taking a stab, I'll drop an ear, thanks.

Glad it worked for you in the end!

Does anyone know if there is a 12 volt adapter out there that will work with these?  I believe it calls for positive ground.

Thanks,

I found this, I think it's up to the specs of the standard 9 volt DOD/Digitech adapter.  I'm assuming it's the standard negative center polarity, does anyone know for sure?:

I'd really appreciate any info on this, I don't really want to buy a more expensive multi-power supply right now.

Thanks,
Al

All the DOD pedals I've ever had used the 1/8" phone style power adapters, but I guess that Digitech has switched over and assimilated to Boss/everbody else's standard.

Anyway, the one you linked gives 12VAC output.  I think you want DC, no?

Late DOD and newer Digitech have changed to the neg center barrel plug adapter like everyone else, but thanks for the head's-up, you're right it says 12 volts AC on the EH power supply.

I'm rethinking this 12 volt thing on the DOD FX-96 now, I received the one I bought from Ebay, and unlike some of the info out there, I think it works great even with a fresh battery.  This pedal has a max 800 ms delay, and seems like it will fit my needs as is.  ANOTHER NOTE:  I found out that the DOD/Digitech standard adapter for these pedals supplies 9.6 volts, not 9 volts like most power supplies.  Possibly this is why guys were using 12 volt adapters for them, maybe the pedal works fine with the DOD power supply, but some people were using normal 9 volt supplies with them.  I don't know if the extra .6 volts would make a difference, but who knows?  Anyway, it's an awesome analog delay, I got one in excellent shape for $50, even the new MXR Carbon Copy I was interested in is $150, and it's 600ms Max.  I think I've found what I need.  By the way, mine will ALMOST self-oscillate as it is (if I max out the repeats and the tape quality knobs), and I have no need for further repeats, I think the original poster here wanted it to repeat longer for special effects.  I'm happy with this thing, I think it's a real sleeper pedal!.

I only needed the extra 3V boost (9V to 12V) to allow the components to allow for more oscialltions (of repeats), and believe me it does work. Sounds like distortion and explosions when echoes self-osciallte; of course, I only use these sounds ocassionally when I want special effects. Just thought you might want to know.
