I posted this in the beginners forum a week and a half ago and have not gotten an answer yet, that forum seems to be pretty dead. I am reposting it here, hopefully one of you can help me.

I built the beginner project following the guides, and everything was going fine until I got to the stereo input jack. I could not find a stereo input jack that looked like the pictures at Fry's or Radio Shack, the only one I could find between the two places was a 9 Pin 1/4" Stereo Jack w/ DPDT Switch. Unfortunately I didn't really understand the wiring diagram on the package (and have since lost the packaging). I tried using a multimeter and continuity testing to figure out what goes where, but that just confused me more, a few of the prongs only connected to each other.

I know I have it wired wrong, here is what I have done. How should I do this?

I google searched the description of the jack, and this seems to be the same thing:

The easiest way is to plug in a TRS cable and check continuity between the tip, ring and sleeve of the unplugged end to the lugs of the jack.  If you just check lugs of the jack, then there will be some odd connections due to the DPDT switch built in.

I solved this problem the same way I solve most problems in life. I gave up and decided to do something else. I went to Vetco Electronics and got some regular 1/4" stereo input jacks.
