Overdrive with a three band eq

I made an Overdrive Pro.  The 3-band EQ works fine.  It's not my favourite pedal, but is easily tailored to achieve a wide variety of familiar sounds that many will probably like.

+1 on the overdrive pro.  It's a really straight-forward build, and can be easily modded to your taste.

For something very simple but very effective, try our esteemed Aron Nelson's Smash Drive.

Guvnor is good. Depends on what sound you're after really. You can graft a Fender-style tone stack onto lots of things.
