Separate fuzz and octave up effects in one box

Somebody asked if I could build them a fuzz octave up effect but they want to be able to switch between the two effects separately and also use them simultaneously of coarse. Any suggestions?

From what I can tell the Octavia and the Fender Blender don't use distinct signals each for the fuzz and then for the octave up so I can't just go in and add an extra stompswitch in there. Think I will have to just build the two effects on their own and make up a little switching scheme?

The problem you'll find is that there aren't and terribly good 'clean' octave-up circuits.  Most of them distort to some degree.  So if he wants clean octave, dirty, and dirty octave, he's going to be a little dissapointed.  It's more likely he'll get dirty octave, dirty, and really dirty octave.

So far I've built two variations of this kind of pedal.
A silicone fuzz with the octave circuit, that the octave can be switched off, and a Distortion+ circuit and octave in the same box where each effect can be used independantly or together, with true bypass of course.
Using a dual opamp for the distortion circuit, I used the unused half of the opamp to boost the level of the octave after the octave circuit just for the heck of it.

So far they've been liked by everyone who's tried them.

Edit: by placing the distortion after the octave circuit it not only sounds better but gives better octave definition.

What about building a clean octave up and drive it with the distortions you already have. Maybe removing Q1 from the Green Ringer, or make it unit gain.

I am working on a pedal that does this, except I am blending the octave and fuzz signal as opposed to making it footswitchable.

Basically it is a heavily modified fuzz face being fed into something akin to the green ringer.

I have tried many different octave generation circuits from standard opamp, through the foxx tone machine, the ibanez standard fuzz method, and a jfet implementation, I prefer the sound of the green ringer style octave generation. Tim escobedo also has some nice octave up circuit snippets on his site which should give you fruitful ideas.

I`ve just done that with an Orpheum Fuzz + Green Ringer.

I built Gus's Octave Up Sick Box (http://www.diystompboxes.com/pedals/ousb.gif) and put an extra stomp switch on it to break contact between the 10uf and Ge/33k in one of the rectifier diode legs (IIRC). It makes a real nice fuzz if you do that. Then just hit the switch if you want the octave-up. I used a DPDT carling I had lying around, and used the other set of poles to switch an LED indicator.

I suspect any of the octave-fuzzes that use that type of rectification could be modded that way.

There's sooooo many ways to go with this combination, and of the various prototypes I've been messing with they all have some good sick qualities about them!

well, it looks like through some misunderstanding he is looking for an octave down and a fuzz!

It seems simple octave down layouts are harder to find...does the GreenRinger do down as well as up?

No- but the MXR Blue Box for one does.

thank you! that will do just fine.

is it possible to make a pedal without a volume control and just have it at unity gain at all times?

Working on it, a 2 transistor circuit. I'll post the idea soon.

Of course.
The volume pot, is just a resistor that changes the resistance of the output.

Maybe you can try this

I pick this schemo on "omnidrive" (a pedal with a lot of option (switches and pots to recreate famous disto/fuzz/OD boxes) (I don't remember the author).
