Hi every one,

The big muff it's a great pedal, but it scoops Mids and it's not a good thing when we play with bass and drums. The Midas are the main frequencies of the guitar. This mod consists to give more Mids to the big muff. The Mids is around 1KHz, and the BM has a hollow here (see screenshot). To give more Midas to your pedal you need change only 2 components (maybe more) at the tonestack.

You need to use tonestack calculator (it's a free software).

big muff pedals  haven't the same values (it's depend of the age of your big muff) at the tonestack, you need to check them and play around (with tonestack calculator) to put Mids on the same line with trebles and basses.

The mine has R1/R2= 27K and C1=3,3n C2=10n
I don't touch the Resistors but I change the capacitors to 1nF.(the change depends of values you find in YOUR big muff)

A screenshot to show the action of the mods

In green the big muff Stock's frequencies with tone pot at the middle (you can see there's a hollow at 1KHz)
In red the big muff Mord's frequencies with the tone pot a the middle (you can note 1KHz is at the same level with basses and trebles)

You can also create an originale tonestack, play with the software, It's a cool tool!!

This mod changes enormously the original sound and creates another tone. You can install a switch to have the original sound and the "Mids mod". If you love the guitar's tone of Jack white or the wonderfull Glamour lead's tone, you must do this!!!

(you can also install a rotary 3X4 to have 4 different tonestacks and have the ultimate big muff ;D

How about a soundclip?

I *hate* the sound of a stock BMP. Would love to hear how adding some mids might affect it.

I cannot do soundclip, or I can do one with my camera, but the only amp I've is a Marshall MG10 (a bullshit :icon_rolleyes:). My main amp is at store to be fixed, I get back maybe in the week. But if you insiste I can try to make a video when I recover my valveking.

But, it's very similar to the sound of jack white's guitar with the white stripes, when he plays live of course.

It rings like fuzz with this mods whereas it ring like a faty and dirty distortion with the scoop mids.

You can also use Jack Orman's AMZ presence control which changes one cap and adds a "body" pot of 25KB.
Check it out in the AMZ link above (in the Lab Notebook)

That's a nice mod; I have a GGG-tuned BMP that I did that mod to and it's pretty much the only fuzz I use (although I'm working on another GGG one and will keep it stock). That 'body' control does affect the midrange greatly and is very useful.
