I'm not sure what I am hearing when I listen to fu manchu...it's a nice octave fuzz on a lot of the guitars but is it octave up or down? Any builds you can recommend to get me close to their sound?

Thanks!

I don't know, but for a definitive answer, you could email their bassist, brad, who makes pedals himself now  :icon_biggrin: The name is Creepy Fingers effects.

It's octave up- a little bit. Some vintage fuzzes have an emphasized upper octave. I believe Hill uses a Crown Fuzz.

I was able to get a good Fu Manchu sound with an Octave Up Sick Box. I put an extra footswitch on it to break one of the diode legs in the rectifier. That makes a good meaty and aggressive fuzz that reminds me a lot of the Fu. Then hit the octave switch for even more fun.
