ROG's 3 Legged Dog soundclip - how to obtain that tone?

Hello,

I've just built ROG's 3 Legged Dog and i am very dissapointed with it.

First time i heard more hiss and squeals from it than my guitar. After i'd searched the forum i put a 120pf cap in the first stage and a 47pf in the second - much better, but still it's too muffled (poor definition of the chords).

The gain pot is almost useless: at 10-20% sounds almost clear and after that sounds very distorsed.

What i must to do: to change some caps, to change J201 for a 2N5457 or anything else?

Thx a lot!

Anyone make it sounds ok using ONLY the schematic's value?

Are you using the specific UBE kind of 4049?  It does really make difference!

I always use an unbuffered version (like 4049UBE) on those drive/booster projects using CMOS inverter chips successfuly.
Pagan and happy!

that´s weird.. seeing your posts looks like you are trying hard with 4049 OD´s..my experience with them has been nothing but pure success, nice crunchy dynamic tones with really low noise..

try different brands of 4049. For me CD4049 works like a charm, and try a few 4069 too..

Yes. Several times.

It's your sound. Take no prisoners. Follow no brands. Do it your way.
