I have a circuit (soon to be turned into a schematic if i can ever figure out eagle or something) that allows you to play a note through an octave up and down and through a filter. this note holds when you take your hand off the strings. anyway, when you have a note you want to play on top of, you can flip a switch and it will cut off the input to the holding note and you can then play on top of it with a clean tone (or maybe some other tone)..maybe that will even have its own output.

anyway...i want to replace the switch with a footswitch. hopefully one you could push once to cut off the input, and then once again to go back to tracking. OR maybe if they mae pedals that when you hold them down its on, and then when you let your foot off, its off again.

i am not sure if i should just leave two switch contacts open in the schematic and then later connect a footswitch jack???

any ideas??

thanks

Hello, you can replace any toggle switch with the same type of stomp switch (ie spdt toggle-->sptd stompswitch, dpdt toggle---> dpdt stompswitch), and any momentary switch with a momentary stompswitch.  It doesn't matter to the electrons what the switch looks like, as long as they get were they're going.  Small bear has the best selection of stompswitches, they have a spdt momentary footswitch, which means it can be wired as a spst either normally on or normally off.

You'd have to show us shcematically what kind of switch it was and how it was hooked up, but just as long as electrically it is the same path as the original, it doesn't matter if it has to go out to a jack, through a cable, and into a footswitch.  If you draw us out your idea, it'd be easiest to tell, or you could just try it!

thanks a lot
i had  doubted that  it could be that easy. so really all you are doing when you buy a foot switch at a store is buying something that connects two wires together like a real switch. simple. but i have never done anything of the kind before (i come from a synth background and even though i am making guitar fx they are more rack oriented i suppose. but i need to get into foot switches.

can anyone recommend a good not too expensive model of foot switch/pedal (external switch that plugs into a 1/4" jack?)
sorry for my newbie questions

it would probably be most wise to do some reading on switches, and RG Keen's site is an excellent place to start. Try http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/bypass/bypass.htm. Some of it is not so relevent, but it gives a very good overview of switches. Also have a look at http://ourworld.cs.com/gknott5413/elect46.htm.

If there is a local non-corporate music store, most usually have a few orphaned amp footswitches, might find what you want or could modify there.

$10!  $15 if it's really cool.  $5 if you are a bandit.
