At the risk of making myself look like a total fool, which way round are vero layouts depicted?

The pics of the components are showing so does this mean that that is the non shiny side showing?

I ask because I've been following designs so that the picture matches the solder side and I think I may have been building circuits backwards as I'm two for two not working :icon_redface:

uh oh--you are correct--they are depicting the parts side of the board. Sometimes the trace cuts can get a bit confusing, since you're looking at the mirror image on the other side.

I twist a drill bit with my fingers to make trace cuts, so I just mark each hole that needs cut (on the parts side) with a marker, then look through the hole to make sure the drill bit is behind the right one. Mark it with the bit, then turn it over and make the cut :)

They're usually shown from the top, solder side down, component side up.

Yep, I was doing it backwards, oh dear...

Well now I feel stupid for cursing the board :icon_redface:

Well, it's not hopeless. Just re-orient the transistors and be a little creative with IC's - make sure the pins end up where they're supposed to be, somehow, and you'll be all right. Messy, but all right  ;).

Yeah, your ICs are the big problem.  If you can bend the legs upward so that you put it in upside down, you may be able to make it work.

Think I'll just start over, it was only mxr dist+ so not tons of parts and none of them were particularly hard to find

Seems like I do this on at least one cut, about every 3rd or 4th build.  I've gotten pretty crafty at fixing those extra holes with careful foil-side jumper placment, though.

One day you'll laugh at it, now it's only cursing!?!  :icon_evil:

Haha, well turns out it doesn't matter if it's backwards or forwards, it ain't working! Will buy a new soldering iron tomorrow and try again, for now, thanks for answering my question  :D
