Hi guys!
I'd like to know what are the important characteristics that a diode need to be equivalent of another diode, for the clipping.. What characteristics should be the same or similar in order to sound the same?
thanks

 The "foreward threshold".
That is the voltage the DMM reads when in 'diode' mode [the DMM instrument dial may have a setting marked with something like: ---->l-- ...and it'll read some voltage like .62 or 1.26 [when diode is correct polarity] which should be in the ball park of the diode's data sheet, the other way around it should read..nothing.
The Foreward threshold is the voltage at which they clamp'.
Try measuring the diodes in the clipping portion of the circuit for Ft.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

and what's the symbol on the datasheet? it is VF (max)?

for example..a 1N4148 has VF (max) @ IF 100mA = 1,20 V
while a 1S1555 has VF (max) @ IF 100mA = 1,4 V

this means that are quite similar? The other specs are not important?
thanks!
