I have done it to the Behringer VP-1 Phaser. It was easy.
Here is a diagram of how it is done. You can probably apply it to other pedals of the same series.

answering generally, the way to tb mod any pedal is to keep it in the on state all the time then build an a/b looper around that. I have done this to the tu1000 tuner. Normally this requires experimentation to determine how the momentary switch is acting on the switching circuit--- usually it's grounding it or applying a power supply to the switching circuit. You will need a multimeter, patience and the ability to trace the circuit from the PCB to figure out the switch. The good news is that once you know how to do it, it's easy from then on.

It's way easier to just chop the switching FETs out and replace them with jumpers! Chop out and jumper the FETs, then have the footswitch bypass the whole board. Easy.

it's easy but it's less elegant 
depends on what your specific goal is i guess. Chopping things out is so draconian, although i do like to cut PCB in half a lot lol. Sometimes the chopping out affects the sound (cork sniffer alert!). Chopping is also a little more irreversible since you need to desolder  . I think it's easier to jumper the pins really after you figured it out which usually will also teach you something.
