I'm looking to have 50+ of the same board etched, its probably 1"x 2" at the most with under 50 component holes, single sided.  Any idea what I should expect to pay or where you guys have yours etched at?  I'm not looking to do it myself so no need to link me to a tutorial.  Thanks.

Also, Futurlec does layouts, boards, etc.

I havent used them, but its another possibility.

The search I did, was: "Futurlec"  :icon_eek:
(coz my virtual eye/memory told me that in that Gaussmarkov-thread I linked to,
( in reply#1, first link! ),
there was talk about Futurlec AND Olimex... )   :icon_razz:

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

...the nice thing about Futurlec is they almost always give you more boards than you order.  Bad thing about Futurlec is the 3-5 week wait for boards.

I use ExpressPCB for faster turn around, but their CAD tools are really cumbersome.

Cumbersome? I don't know, I started fooling around with their software and it seems pretty intuitive.

Now Eagle.....that's cumbersome! Maybe it's perfect for more complex stuff but for pedals, it seems like overkill.

for a run of 50 your choices are limited, at least if you want ot keep the price limited.  Futurlec, which has been mentioned a couple times is the only place i know of with reasonable prices for low quantites.  Unfortunately the one time i tried dealing with them, I got an email response in bad broken english which i couldn't understand.

The boards from advanced circuits are way better, and you have way more options.  I used them for a couple years.  You'd probably have to buy 250 boards to make it worhtwhile though.

I've fiddled around with the price calculator for boards at Futurlec, and it's the cheapest by far. I've deal with the guys a couple of times before too (they DO have a broken english), and they are very helpful if you approach them in the right manner.

If broken english from futurlec is a problem, perhaps try contacting them through the Australian office -- futurlec.com.au

I use futurlec, cheapest and boards are correct. It is done take a long time and they are little hard to deal with. They are firendly, they are just not setup to offer full support and there is no phone number. Paying is also kind confusing as the pcb dept seems to be separate from FUTURLEC. SO if you are not in a rush...

In addition to ExpressPCB, there is PCBexpress.  I believe they are both independent of one another and PCBexpress seems to be pretty straight forward though I only get that impression from a quick look at their website.  Either way, might be another avenue to explore.

Wondering if there are any other options - specifically those that do it on the side as a hobby.  More options are always better.  And I'm worried that the cost of a small run is going to exceed the cost of the time saved.

at eurocircuits 20 small boards is about 60-70 euros. if you want 1 board you pay allmost the same :p

more is cheaper ofcourse.

you can have all options you want, drilled, cut, screen printed, solder mask etc is standard. then you can get special colors, multiple layers, special shapes and whatever you can thinks about.

I planned to use BatchPCB, but I didn't really find an occasion to try thei service, anyway they offer professionnal looking PCB (quality goes the same way) for very low prices.. The only flaw is that it can take 2 weeks to get your board made, because they stack the orders until they have enough to run a production (which can take a long time).

I use Eagle to design my boards, and Futurlec get the job of making them. I'm very satisfied with them! Cheapest service too i believe.
