Hi,

I've just got brand new irwin unibits but it seems i don't know how to use them. when i'm trying to drill even the smallest hole from the whole range it seems to take ages. the encosure is getting hot cause it took me about 3 or 4 minutes of continuos drilling to get throught the smallest step(4mm). what am i doing wrong?? i'm drilling a standard aluminium enclosure. what's more drilling a 3mm hole with my dremel takes me less than 5 seconds.

heeelp :/

Yo

I couldn't imagine what you would be doing wrong but mine eats through enclosures like warm butter and mines pretty dull...

hey,

This might seem silly, but does your drill have FORWARD and REVERSE settings?

pretty embarrasing but that was it  :icon_redface:
thanks

I've been there, done that!   :icon_biggrin:

Love my Unibit -- for my stompbox projects, it has been almost as essential as a soldering iron and a multimeter.  I've had the best success drilling pilot holes before starting in with the stepped bit...

just got mine a few weeks ago. yes it does truly kick ass. got me knocking out some enclosures.  something that was previously causing me problems due to procrastination and fear from not having a proper press.

There is a little problem when the things happens also with your car.  ;D  Not my experience; I've seen it and it was "kind of funny".

I have 2 of these and oddly the smaller (goes to 3/4") one eats thru aluminum as someone said "like warm butter". But the larger one (goes to 1-3/8") takes forever. It's sizes are the same as the smaller one till it gets to 3/4" of course, so why this is i have no idea. But to get thru the entire bit up to the final 3/4" on the smaller one on a .090" aluminum amp chassis it takes about 10 seconds. The large one takes about a minute or more to get to 3/4" and chews the hole edges up badly in the process. Bizarre...

I HATE when that happens!  Really makes me feel like a big DORK!  Everyone's done it though.  Some just won't admit it.
