Built a noisy cricket between thursday night and yesterday evening. I get no sound @ the output jack, I audio probed it and found audio at the #3 lug on the volume pot, and at the gate and source of the Jfet, But I cannot find any signal any where else. The only substitution I made was a j 201 in place of mpf 102 owing to a lack of the 102
Voltages are as follows
J201
Drain 8.28 v
Gate .442 v
Source 0 v

LM 386 N-1
1 1.306 v     5 .609 v
2 6.8 mv      6 8.19 v
3 0 v            7 1.344 v
4 0 v            8 1.420 v Gain Pot wide open

Battery @ 8.28 v

Which schem?  Are you using Dano's noisy cricket project?

You won't be able to use the J201 without first attempting to re-bias the whole thing.

You've probably done most of it right, but the MPF102 should be tried first.  8.28 is awfully high, so yeah I'd be willing to bet the MPF102 is what you need to knock that drain voltage down.

I know you said you don't have one handy, but Radio Shack does have them stocked usually.  Good luck!!!

Okay It is the radio shack noisy cricket project from Beavis audio Research http://beavisaudio.com/Projects/NoisyCricket/index.htm I replaced the j201 with an mpf 102 however I still get nothing. Granted i still have to check voltages, when i was audio probing i was getting an arc off the drain of the mpf102, as well as pins 5&6 of the lm386. Somehow this does not seem correct any thoughts on what i might be missing???
