Hey guys.

If anyone knows the BMP that Dano has posted on his site, I have a question about it.

First here's the link:

http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/BigMuffToneControl/

Could/Would I run the whole tone control "pre" the circuit I was going into?
I.E.  I'm building a modded Electra Dist. could I run that whole tone control section and send the output lead (from pot lug #2)
into the input of circuit?  So the whole thing would exist like this...

Input of instrument > BMP tone control > elec dist circuit > output of pedal.

It seemed to me that I should do it this way, but I wasn't sure... on the diagram it just has the lug of the pot headed to the tip lead of the output jack.
any help would be appreciated =)
thanks

I think you would be better off putting it at the output of the Electra, then having a gain recovery stage after it. As with most tone controls, there is a loss of volume. Have a look at the BM schematic, and maybe use both the tone circuit and the gain recovery stage. That way you're also buffering the tone control from whatever comes after it ( or before it if using the idea you originaly suggested).

Rick is absolutely correct.  The circuit will "work", in the sense of altering tone, but the question is whether the volumeloss will be significant enough that the maximum output will be less than bypass.  This is, in fact, why the very pedal from which this subcircuit came - the Big Muff Pi - has a gain stage after the tone control.

A couple of weeks ago I put a BMP tonestack after a Colorsound One Knob Fuzz, the resistor values are a little different but the results are cool: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=71050.msg572755#msg572755
