BluesBreaker tone stack suggestions?

Hey guys,

I DIY'd a B.B. a while back, 1M gain pot for some more fuzz.  I like the drive level, but I'm finding the stock tone stack a little...boring.  Too flat and middy, and I'd like a small mid scoop w/a little less bass.
I'm seeing a connection to Vr there, which I assume is biasing to push the diodes a little more?  Would modding the stack screw up the feedback loop?  Would I have to use Vr as the "ground" for a new stack?

I'm kind of wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a new tone stack scheme that will get some scoop (think of 80's solos like Journey, or Heart - I'm looking for that bite...).  Maybe something from AMZ?

Thanks!

MXR Dist +, TS9/808, Easyvibe, Big Muff Pi, Blues Breaker, Guv'nor.  MOSFace, MOS Boost,  BJT boosts - LPB-2, buffers, Phuncgnosis, FF, Orange Sunshine & others, Bazz Fuss, Tonemender, Little Gem, Orange Squeezer, Ruby Tuby, filters, octaves, trems...

Maybe you just need to think about using a different pedal. Or mod it into a Guvnor or something. The stereotypical Bluesbreaker amp sound is pretty middy by definition. Listen to the Beano album- all warm mids for blues. The pedal attempts to cop that tone IMO.

Journey and Heart it ain't...

Yes, it's very nice for bluesy stuff, which is why I keep it around. It ALMOST does the job, but not quite.
Any suggestions as to a good all-around hard rock lead pedal?  Dist + annoys me (too shrill even with modding it), Big Muff has TOO large a mid scoop and is too fuzzy....

Try a Guvnor. Heck, at least breadboard it. It's  a nice sounding circuit that gets the "marshall lead tone" thing happening.

From the looks of it, it might do the trick!  We'll see how it sounds.
Thanks, Doug.

By "lead pedal", do you mean for solo's and single note stuff? If so, Dougs Meteor is incredible. Its been on my board for a few years now and nothing comes close to it for guitar solo work.

The Meteor looks like it would give some serious ass-whoopin', lol.  I'll make a note to breadboard it when I get some time...my band has decided to work some Journey and 80's tunes into the set, and a gig is coming up in 10 days, which is why I wanted to just mod my already-modded BB.    I breadboarded the Guv'nor...didn't do the tone stack yet, but the raw tone is reallllly nice!

Anyone know how the cheapo Marshall "Contour" control is done? It sounds like it's just a variable mid-scoop....I'm thinking of setting the bass and treb and using 1 knob for the tone (scoop).
tick...tick...tick, y'know how it is.
