Hi guys,

Yes, I've read the FAQ and I've seen these pics http://www.diystompboxes.com/pedals/images/3PDTwiring.jpg  But I still can't figure how to identify the terminals on a 3PDT switch  ???.  I've obviously got them wrong at the moment because I'm getting nothing from my pedal.  Can somebody please help?

Did you have the pedal working before you hooked it all up to the jack and have therefore isolated the wiring to the jack as your actual problem?

Are the poles in the right direction? The poles are vertical in the .jpg.

And have you determined that its wired like the picture and when using the switch there is continuity, using a multimeter, between the points that are supposed to have it?

Yes it was all working fine before I hooked up the swtich.

I don't know if the poles are in the right direction, this is the point of my question, how can you tell if the poles are in the right direction ???  Its definitely wired like the one in the picture but I don't know if I've wired it to the correct poles.

Make sure the holes in the lugs are parallel to the ground (e.g. looking straight down at the switch, you can see through the holes (sorry, not that great of a explanation).
To those about to rock, we salute you.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Use your ohmmeter.

Seconded. I had to do that every time for a while until I had it engrained in memory.

"Standard' [or the one option], often you'll see the jumper at the bottom in schematics, the In/Out wiring for that follows...
With the lugs facing you, turn it to the side and look through the eyelets.
If you can't see the eyelets, with the lugs facing you again, turn 1/4 turn, now turn it straight away from you, viewing from the sides you should be able to see through the eyelets.
Works on every 3PDT blue and many other switches, test with DMM.
Also, understand the connections the switch makes in it's various states, then verify that it's doing that.
