I used DeSerres vitra-laque, it's the store brand for an art supply chain around here. I'm sure others work, like the one in that article I posted a few posts back.

Another little trick with this stuff is to add a small amount of pearl or fine metal flake to it before you pour it.  My brother's done this with the metal flake on a couple of his boxes and it turned out killer!  I'll post a pic after I find my camera....I know it's in this mess somewhere!
