Hi All
I have a Black Russian Big Muff that has developed a problem with the sound cutting out. Seems to be a problem with the jack sockets which PCB mount   if I move the guitar jacks up and down the sound comes back.
Looking at the the PCB there are no breaks or obvious problems. Putting pressure on the sockets ..kind of twisting the PCB by the sockets/jacks brings the sound back.
I read that the jack sockets should be changed as a matter of course .Should I go for the PCB mount sockets or the switchcraft kind ? if I was to go for the open kind how would the wiring go ?
Thanks
Steve

You'll need to go with PCB mount since the jacks are the only thing holding the board in place.  Try resoldering the original jacks first.

Hi Ron
OK I will try resoldering first and see what happens. The joints look fine but I will give it a go.
Yeah the article I saw suggested using switchcraft jack sockets so one could swap around the sockets

OK I resoldered but it has not cured the problem. The bypass signal is there but no signal when the fuzz is turned on .LED is on. if I put pressure on the pads or on the guitar jacks the I get the fuzz . guess I need to get some new sockets then.

Looks like you'll need to replace them after all.  Have you tried audio probing to verify the problem is in the jacks?

I'm seriously new to all this  :-[ .been looking at the simple debugging  page and will make up an audio probe .See how I go I dont have .1uF non polarized capacitor handy so will order one when I order some new jack sockets.
Thanks for your advice .will update
