Looks like I solved the lfo-problem. C10 legs on the board were too close to the nereby resistor and kept taking contact wit them. This seemed to stop the lfo.
I resoldered the cap, so it's sitting more tightly in place, and the thing seems to work fine now.

BTW a bigger input cap (mine is now 0,1uf) helps solve the volume drop issue and gives a fuller overall sound.
