Hi,

What do you think about this drill press for 50 Euros?
Will it be capable of holding the small sizes of drills for pcb holes?
Will it have enough power for drilling aluminium boxes?
Is the max speed enough?

some specifications:
- 9 speeds: from 390 to 2600 r/min
- max depth for drilling: 50mm
- power: 500W
- the brand is: Parkside (never heard of it)

For this price, I probably shouldn't expect it to be very good. But what do you guys think?

(For the people who live in Belgium: it's for sale in the Lidl stores at 29th of January)

you can get this thing called a pin vise (I think) which is sort of an adaptor that goes in the chuck that can fit very small bits

The chucks fitted to these drills don't grip small drills very well, due to the jaws having flats on their gripping surfaces. The minimum diameter they will grip reliably is about 1.5mm. This can be overcome by wrapping the shank of smaller drills with solder or soft wire. I've used this method reliably in machine tools for many years.

One other point to mention is that the maximum speed of these machines is low compared to the ideal speed necessary for (say) 0.8mm drills, so you have to take your time and bear in mind that pillar drills don't have the same feel as a machine dedicated to PCB drilling, so its easier to break drills if you don't take care.

my father has this drill press!

and i use it for everything about making stompbox  ;D

i use a sort of adapter when i use a 0.9mm  drill! and one of this (i don't know how to say it in english, maybe conic bur?)

to make pot end 3pdt and dc jack holes.
Sorry for my very bad english but i'm italian! (and i think you've understood that!)

I decided not to buy this thing. On a Dutch-speaking forum, they told me it's some Chinese crap.
I should better save a bit more to buy a decent one.

Looks very much like the Draper I started out with. It worked very well; the only problem I had was that it didn't have enough height adjustability to do 13mm holes in the ends of long boxes (using a normal 13mm bit).
