Need help with a rotary switch on my wah

So, I was assembling my wired up wah pedal with 4 different capacitor selections when the little metal washer with a pin sticking in to the rotary switch fell out. I put it back in, but it turns out it matters where you put it in, it determines the number of positions, for mine I want it to be 4, but I've tried forever  >:( and can't seem to get it back to just having four or having them in the right places. So, when I turn it i sometimes get 5, 6, 1, or 2 positions, I got 4 but when I did it was weird only 2 of them were actually connected to the lugs if that makes sense like the first two positions were connected to nothing and the next two were the first two lugs. Anyway I am wondering if anyone can help me, like if there is a system for where to put the washer corresponding to how many positions you want and where you want it to begin. I'm not sure but does where I have the switch when I change the washer affect where it makes its positions? Theres just too many variables, I need an expert. Thanks.

BTW, it worked right before the washer fell out, I tested it on my amp.

lol wow, I got lucky, So I fiddled with it for a bit again and I must have dropped it into the place where you get 4 switches, but I almost lost it because the thing is very finicky, the second it got loose it went back to 6 and I was like wait a minute and then I pushed it back in and I got 4 positions. But I had to get the lugs right by turning the switch all the way to the end before putting in the washer. Really I got lucky, but I could see this happening to many other people, it's very easy for the washer to fall out while you're installing the switch.
