The GT500 claims to use an inductor in the tone stack for the mids.  Does anyone have any similar designs or schematics for how an inductor is used in a more subtle fashion like this? (ie not a wah)

just doing some research while i wait for my parts to come in.

Inductors are extremely useful for filter implementation.  In a tone stack, that could be a low pass, high pass or mid cut.  All depends on how it is arranged.  A series inductor and shunt capacitor will give you a low pass filter.  The only thing with inductors is their frequency dependent resistance, Q, and noise production possibility.  I can see how it would be more dramatic in shaping tones, especially if it uses more than one or if it uses it in a notch configuration.  If you want to do the same thing, but without the drawbacks of an inductor, you can simulate an inductor using an OTA, resistors and capacitors.
