DI box

Ok here's one for y'all its kinda stompbox'ish as I gotta build this....

I am just setting up a recording rig.  I got myself a nice EMU 1820M on ebay, and am going to mic my amp with a SM57, the amp will be mic'd in a different room thats not a problem for running an XLR cable from the shure.

But I want to be sat infront of the PC when playing guitar and its too far for me to want to run a standard guitar lead.  I was thinking of making a few DI boxes, so I can go Guitar>DI>XLR>DI>amp

I know basically I need a transformer and what connections to make.  I am thinking a powered DI box would be the best bet. if so I am figuring only one end needs to be powered or do both?

and does anyone have any goo dinfo or schems that can be shared

Well I went over to the Jensen site and I cant quite find what I am lookng for,

I need to plug from my guitar into mystery box one run using an XLR cable for quite a fair way then go from XLR to phono to goto my head.

Now thats simple you all say, except I getting the feeling that a long run like that is going to load my pickups right down so I need something powered.

Strictly for Mojo reasons I'd really like to make a tube buffer any ideas?
