Output Volume Increases then Decreases across sweep.

Here's an image gallery with the schematic, layout, and build shots. http://imgur.com/a/RsmOH

I'm using a A100K instead of the B470K as that value was way too dark sounding. You can see in the last photo that Lug 3 of the volume pot is going to the board output, Lug 2 is going to breadboard output (yellow jumper), and Lug 1 is going to ground. When I start with the volume knob fully CCW there is a low output volume and muffled. It brightens up quickly but not too much. The volume peaks around 12:00 of the sweep, not quite unity volume yet, and then output starts to decrease and get muffled again by fully CW.

When it was on the breadboard it worked fine. I made this layout, so it isn't "verified", but it's based mostly on the verified layout over at Tagboard. http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/01/dam-meathead-deluxe.html

in the bottom row of this layout is a 100nF capacitor:

but there is no cut in the copper track shown. this means the cap is doing nothing except affecting you vol pot action. mark that layout "UNVERIFIED, contains error/s" and make the cut.

also, check the datasheets for the transistor types you have in hand.

That was it! Thank you. I didn't realize/today I learned the leads of a series component still need to be separated.
