Hi, just a few questions about this (my first breadboard project)..

How is the input/output jack(s) hooked up?
Do junctions in the circuit go on the same line on the breadboard (eg 0.1uF cap to 1M/100K resistors)?
Are the black arrows pointing to positive, and can all of these points go to the one positive point when I build the actual pedal?
How do we know from the schematic which lug is which on the pots?
What kind of switch do i use for the Sludge switch, and how to wire it?

and finally, how do i make my breadboard less cramped and neater? at the moment, it looks awful   :-[  maybe someone out there has a
photo/diagram of this project, that would help too    :)

  These are good questions.
  These are better answers:
  |DIY FAQ| |GEO FAQ| |Debugging Page| |Links| |Schematics| |Wiki| |Layouts Gallery| |STORE|
|AMPAGE| |GEOFEX| |AMZ|
     ...than I can type.
There are very many of them, try them all out as possibly applicable to SB Electronics, the bulk of all necessary info is all there, the finest dining areas ever for those seeking food for thought.

Spread out the components! :)

Don't fret too much over this. This, as you say, is your first attempt. Concentrate on learning how to interpret a schematic and worry about the aesthetics later.

Yes, all the black arrows are going to your 9V supply, all earth symbols to ground.  You should look at the turret layout for breadboarding, it makes it very obvious which bits go where and it translates well into a breadboard layout.  It also shows the wiring for the sludge switch which will be a 2 position DPDT

breadboards tend to look ugly anyways

solid wire for the jumpers, and for long stretches, bend it in right angles like you would on perf board

also, you should cut just about what you would need for the jumpers

Re. pot lug numbering:

In the 'A of S' circuit diagram lug 1 of both pots connects to ground. Lug 2 is the wiper, and is always indicated by an arrow.

Yes, and yes.

I'd just use a SPDT myself.

Breadboards are meant to look awful.  8)
